Friday, September 30 marks Canada’s second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action #80.
In response to calls for reconciliation, our organization has taken the following actions to deepen our learning, listen, and recognize the shared history of our nation.
- Provide employees with a paid day off, with the expectation that they will spend the time reflecting and learning in the community. The National Arts Centre provides online free opportunities for individuals to learn from home.
- Support individual staff learning during work time. We are particular fans of the
University of Alberta Indigenous Canada Course. - Internally share learnings and question how Indigenous ways of knowing the world align with our work. We are inspired by how the philanthropy sector has begun to imagine how Indigenous conceptions of reciprocity align with the trust-based philanthropy movement.
